The Swapo chairperson of the national leaders assigned to the Hardap Region, Lucia Witbooi, is urging the region’s inhabitants to join in commemorating Cassing Day in Windhoek on Friday. Speaking during the party’s 58th anniversary, Witbooi said Cassing Day gathering is for all Namibians to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made during the struggle for independence. She says, therefore, unity must take centre stage among Namibians at the remembrance event. On 4 May 1978 over 600 Namibians were killed when Apartheid South African authorities bombed a camp at Cassinga in southern Angola. Angolan President, Joao Lourenco, who is expected to arrive on Wednesday, will join Namibians to pay homage to the fallen heroes.
