The Ministry of Health will recruit 2 605 people at a cost of N$12 million over three months. So far 1 101 have been recruited, including 560 volunteers. Bertha Katjivena, Deputy Executive Director in the Ministry of Health said they will approach the Labour Ministry to recruit candidates registered for recruitment by the health ministry, to fill temporary positions demanded in the fight against the pandemic. “We are not placing any adverts for these positions,” she said. Katjivena said the Government, and her ministry, in particular, are doing all they can to ensure an increase of human resources to attend to demands of the COVID-19 pandemic. Anna Isaacs, Deputy Director of Human Resources Management said, the 560 volunteers will be remunerated according to the jobs they have been recruited for. Previous experience will not be taken into consideration, adding that housing and transport allowance are the only benefits they’ll qualify for. Isaacs said volunteers will have to meet the requirements of the jobs they’ll be recruited for. Health extension workers will be used at roadblocks and for tracing. Katjivena said the ministry is not considering adding a risk allowance. Those occupying jobs classified under the risk assessment already receive risk allowance as part of their remuneration. She added that of the 1 101 already recruited, 416 are community health workers and 96 are enrolled nurses. They said this during an update on the deployment of health professionals at the COVID-19 Communication Centre today.
