Judge Shafimana Ueitele ordered a halt to the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) National Executive and Central Committee meetings, scheduled for this weekend, in an interim order in the High Court on Friday. The urgent application was brought before court by RDP President, Jeremia Nambinga, who was invited to the meetings while he was supposed to chair them. The application called for the nullifying of the vote of no confidence motion against Nambinga by some party members, which was supposed to be part of the meeting’s agenda, and also to call off the planned meeting as the party’s president was supposed to be informed about and approve the agenda of such a meeting. The case will be back before court on 5 December, for arguments on the merits of the matter, to allow the judge to decide on whether to confirm or reject the interim ruling, which will determine the future of the party’s central committee meeting.
