Higher Education, Innovation and Training Minister, Dr Itah Kandjii-Murangi says the 30th anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration for the development of a free, independent and pluralistic press is an important milestone. The anniversary will be celebrated in 2021. Kandjii-Murangi says the anniversary will require concerted efforts of all member states and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Secretariat to consider how best to make it a memorable celebration. She points out that this is against the background as the world continues to deepen the core values of a free press. Kandjii-Murangi states that Namibia as the nation with the freest press in Africa believes that this media freedom is a cause every nation has to prioritise and transcend. The Higher Education Minister was speaking today at the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference underway in the French capital, Paris.
