Hundreds of mourners gathered at Etilyasa in the Omusati Region for the first official memorial service of the late trade unionist and politician Petrus Iilonga. The remains of the late Iilonga were airlifted from the Eros Airport by NamPol’s helicopter THursday morning. The helicopter landed in Etilyasa, Iilongas’ home village. There, mourners paid homage to their father, a community leader, a son of all – the one who extended his generosity beyond blood ties. Various speakers described him as a dedicated, fearless and gallant fighter. People from all corners of the country and those who housed the late former Robben Island Prisoner during difficult times were there too.
