Minister Stanley Simataa has called on Namibians to refrain from buying stolen items. The minister of Information, Communication and Technology made the call during the announcement of sponsors for the ICT summit slated for next month in Windhoek. Simataa says the ICT sector loses millions of dollars every year due to the culture of citizens who buy cheaper stolen goods. He said such losses can only be curb if the public is vigilant and report those who sell stolen goods as such practices destroy the expansions of ICT services to remote areas. Simataa says on a daily basis reports come in of stolen solar panels, batteries, telephone poles and fibre cables. Players in the ICT sector donated over a million dollars for the hosting of the ICT Summit from the seventh until the ninth of next month. The event is expected to attract hundreds of ICT experts and institutions to discuss trends and challenges facing the industry in the country. In addition, delegates will also present their latest innovations and inventions to the public.
