The Secretary of SWAPO Party Women’s Council is happy that the council has ensured the inclusion of women in the socio-economic and political development of the country over the years. Eunice Iipinge says women empowerment in Namibia is something that should be celebrated in the process of unifying the broader membership of women. The SWAPO Women Secretary made the remarks recently at Katima Mulilo where the SWAPO Women Central Committee, (SPWC), gathered to evaluate its yearly work. Iipinge noted that as a SWAPO wing, it is bound to the ideal of the party to unite the people of Namibia irrespective of race, religion, sex or ethnic origin. Iipinge emphasised that unity is highly needed for the strategic positioning of the party’s women’s council to go forward. Though there is 50/50 representation in the party structures and 46% women in Parliament, Iipinge feels there are still powerful institutions that are still male-dominated. Iipinge has encouraged all Namibians to go in large numbers to celebrate the birth of Namibia 30 years ago on 21 March.
