A 34-year-old woman has been charged with murder in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court. Prosecutor Anna Amukugo charged Phidelia Philander with the murder of 42-year-old Ernst Mewis at Kalkfeld. She objected to Philander’s release on bail, stressing that police investigations into the case have just started. Magistrate Eduard Kesslau remanded the accused in custody until 24 September, to allow for further investigations. Otjozondjupa Police spokesperson Maureen Mbeha told Nampa that Philander, the deceased and other friends had been socialising at her house. Warrant Officer Mbeha said when everyone else had left, Philander and Mewis stayed behind until she ordered him to leave, so that she can sleep. Mbeha alleges that Mewis died instantly from the stab wound to his chest. His relatives have been informed of his death.
