SWAPO Member of Parliament, Lucas Muha says there is a need for inclusivity in the allocation of capital projects per region. He contributed to the debate on the Appropriation Amendment Bill in the National Council. Muha, who is the Kavango West Regional Councillor, said there are no plans to construct or upgrade the roads in the region, compared to others. The MP complained that the region is trailing behind in the proposed road construction plans, highlighted in the Roads Authority 2018/19 to 2021/22 Strategic Plan. The Plan allocates 13 Road Projects to the Ohangwena, 11 to Zambezi and 10 to Erongo, but no road works for Kavango West for the next five years. Five feasibility studies for possible road construction have been done in the region for the next five years. He, therefore, called on the Works and Transport Ministry to explain the criteria used for the allocation of capital projects to other regions, as his region was excluded. Also contributing to the debate, SWAPO MP John Likando called for the upgrading of the Katimal Mulilo Airport. The Zambezi Regional Councillor also called on the ministry to consider the construction of a road to Impalila Island. Likando said currently the road to the island is in bad shape, which forced people to travel to the island through Botswana. Inhabitants of the island also do their shopping in Botswana, as it more accessible.
