The //Kharas Police Commissioner has called on political parties to appeal to their voters to maintain law and order during the Regional Council and Local Authority Elections. Commissioner David Indongo said the police are ready to ensure the safety of Namibians during the polls and will not tolerate any threats or political intimidation between party members. Commissioner Indongo said one case of political intimidation was recorded between members of SWAPO and Independent Patriots for Change (IOC) at Aussenkher. He said three IPC members threatened to assault a SWAPO member who allegedly took pictures of IPC vehicles at a SWAPO rally. A scuffle ensued and the SWAPO member opened a case of assault by threatening with the Aussenkher Police. The Namibian Police will deploy 174 officers in the region’s seven constituencies to maintain law and order. The region will have 87 polling stations.
