Staff members and Sector Heads of the Kunene Regional Council have been urged to comply with the Public Service Act in performing their duties. Council Chairperson Julius Kaujova’s call was prompted by statements by members of the public who say they do not receive necessary services. He says unnecessary office bureaucracy of referring people to various departments delay service delivery to the public. Kaujova quoted American Author, John Maxwell, who said poor service delivery raises and falls on leadership. He said leaders need to be equipped with relevant leadership skills to empower them to lead, control and manage staff, who in turn would deliver effective and quality service. Kaujova said there was an urgent need to tackle the issues of service delivery, accountability and transparency in the region. He accused people in leadership positions of being ignorant to carrying out their duties and responsibilities effectively. Kaujova said many times they sit idly in their offices, while they delegate tasks to their subordinates, compromising service delivery. He told NBC News that money intended for developmental projects in the region was being returned to government coffers due to non-implementation of projects.
