South Africa’s President says his administration’s approach to equitably redistribute land will be done in such a way that it will not impact the economy negatively. Cyril Ramaphosa, in an interview with NBC News, explained land expropriation without compensation is part of resolutions taken at the African National Congress in December. He said his government is on a radical economic transformation journey and access to land is central to that. The South African Parliament also voted in favour of the motion to expropriate land without compensation this week. Ramaphosa cautioned that there are fears among the minority group with land ownership that government would just ”take and give to the landless majority”. But, the approach would be inclusive as his administration is hoping to avoid a skewed national economic development, he noted. President Ramaphosa is visiting SADC member states. He started in Angola and Namibia on Friday. Ramaphosa, who previously served as deputy President, took over the reigns after the resignation of former President, Jacob Zuma, about three weeks ago.
