The opposition political party, SWANU, says the land resettlement programme should pay attention to ancestral land. In a statement, the party said the transformation and concept resettlement process should be designed to address the plight of those dispossessed of their land. It said access to land is a human rights issue and the party demands that land is returned to its rightful owners. Therefore, the second National Land Conference, planned for later this year, should put measures in place to restore all rights lost during the colonial regime. The statement alluded to the issue of Namibians returning from Botswana who are also entitled to land ownership as others. It called for the resettlement programme to be done in consultations with traditional leaders for the sake of transparency. SWANU also advocates for people NOT to be resettled in areas where they do not belong.
