The Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises has called on local authorities across Namibia to promote tourist attractions in their localities. Engel Nawatiseb notes that this is because the tourism sector is increasingly becoming important and continues to impact on the development of the domestic economy. Nawatiseb made the remark when the Luderitz Waterfront launched four penthouses and five luxury apartments on Tuesday. He observed that the sector had, over the years, shown its potential of rapid growth and sustainability and the creation of much-needed jobs for the unemployed. But, the deputy minister also remarked that the ability of the national economy to benefit from tourism depends on the availability of investments to develop infrastructures to ensure constant inflow of visitors to towns. Meanwhile, Luderitz Safaris and Tours Manager, Marion Schelkle, says visitors’ numbers to the harbour town are increasing. Famous tourist attractions at Luderitz and its vicinity include the Waterfront Restaurant, with its seaside view and Kolmanskop ghost town, outside the town.
