The Chairperson of the Kavango East Regional Council has said the late Founding President always had a vision for the Kavango regions to become Namibia’s food basket.

Damian Maghambayi revealed that the Ndonga Linena Green Scheme in the Kavango East Region is one of the agricultural projects that came into existence as a result of Dr. Sam Nujoma’s vision.

“I also remember that President Nujoma was having negotiations with the Ngciriku Traditional Authority, led by the former Hompa, the late Kashian Shiyambi, about the establishment of a new green scheme in the region, and that is how Ndonga Linena came into being. The negotiations started with the founding father.”

Maghambayi added that the national and regional leaders have been working towards the green schemes development to boost food security, and there is still room for improvement.

The chairperson of the Kavango East Regional Council also shared his first encounter with the first president as a 13-year-old boy at a star rally in 1989 at Rundu.
