A man died on the spot after the car he was driving was hit by a train near Aiyandja village in the Oshana Region on Saturday. The TransNamib train was approaching Ondangwa from Oshikango when it drove into the Volkswagen Polo sedan driven by the deceased. Inspector Slogan Matheus of NamPol’s Public Relations Division confirmed the incident to Nampa on Sunday. It is reported that the driver of the Polo, identified as Fredrick Amoomo Matheus, was crossing the railway line when the car allegedly got stuck on the rails. The oncoming train hit the Polo and dragged it along for a distance of some 200 metres from the point of the impact. Matheus, who was alone in the car, died on the spot. In July, a 61-year-old Bissita Lialukeni Velishavo from Eeshoke village in the Ohangwena Region died when she was hit by a train while crossing the railway line. Sergeant Abner Iitumba of NamPol’s Public Relations Unit in the Ohangwena Region told Nampa the incident took place near Omafo village in the same region.
