Minister of Education, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, in a statement sent to the media Friday afternoon, written on an official ministry letterhead, admitted that she was summoned “to appear in the Mariental Magistrate Court on charges of “corruption – corruptly using office or position for gratification”. “These charges stem from my duties as Governor of the Hardap Region, which portfolio I was appointed to by the Former President His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba from 2005-2015. “I state categorically that I neither abused my powers nor was I motivated by a desire for my direct and or indirect benefit.” Hanse-Himarwa was Hardap Governor from 2004 until President Hage Geingob appointed her as Minister of Education, Arts and Culture in 2015.
