The Customs and Excise department and stakeholders made a drug bust estimated at N$206 million at Walvis Bay Friday afternoon. Reliable sources say the drug bust is so far believed to be the biggest in Africa. The container full of cocaine was confiscated at the port and it is believed to have come from Brazil on its way to other markets in South Africa and Angola. The container was declared upon entry in Namibia to have boxes of copy paper, which concealed the cocaine. The container is believed to have arrived a few days ago at the harbour and after a tip off, inspections were made and the drugs were discovered. A local suspect has been arrested and the police are expected to make more arrests. Reliable sources told NBC News that some vessels suspected to have more drugs changed their route after this discovery.
