Namibia has achieved success in enhancing the education sector at all levels, but there is still room for improvement. Higher Education Minister Itah Kandjii-Murangi made the remark at a meeting with //Karas regional and local authority Councillors and the Education Directorate representatives at Keetmanshoop on Monday. Dr Kandjii-Murangi said the country needs to focus on capacity-building of instructors at vocational training centres, while expanding such centres to all the regions. She believes that this would help the country succeed in its quest to become a competitive and industrialized nation in the international arena by 2030. The minister noted that there were currently six regions that did not have public vocational training centres, stressing that the ministry has lined up programmes to improve quality at VTCs. Kandjii-Murangi said access and skills development at these centres would be broadened to equip students with the right tools for employment and job-creation. She said with the right skills, knowledge and attitude, the nation was assured of success in eradicating poverty. She said it was equally important to develop good working relationships between tertiary institutions and industries, making training programmes relevant to job market demands.
