The Minister of Health and Social Services, Kalumbi Shangula said Namibia is prepared and response measures are in place in the event that someone tests positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). Currently, no one has tested positive for the coronavirus yet. The Namibia Institute of Pathology (NIP) is able to carry out confirmatory tests and so far, four lab tests have been carried out by the institution which tested negative. Two of the suspected cases were from Luderitz while the other two are from Rehoboth. Regarding the upcoming independence celebrations, the ministry says all arrivals are subjected to screening and are obliged to fill in a form indicating their recent travels in order to facilitate contact tracing should it become necessary. The ministry further says it will not be possible to ask invited guests to come 14 days in advance for quarantine purposes, however, the country will make sure that all screening mechanisms are adhered to. The Minister said this at a press briefing in Windhoek today.
