As the world celebrates Valentine’s Day, the numbers tell an interesting story. While love is in the air, it’s fascinating to take a closer look at how Namibians are choosing to spoil their loved ones today and just how much they’re spending to make this day special.
In 2024, Namibians spent more than ever on Valentine’s Day, with new trade data from the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) revealing a significant increase in imports of roses, chocolates, and boxer shorts.
According to the latest NSA report for 2023/24, Namibia saw a notable rise in boxer short imports, increasing from N$2.6 million in January 2023 to N$3.3 million in January 2024.
Rose imports also surged, climbing from N$1.5 million to N$2.1 million during the same period.
However, the most striking increase was in chocolate imports. In January 2024, Namibia imported chocolates worth N$11.4 million, a figure that skyrocketed to N$27.8 million in February of the same year.
Rose imports also doubled in February, reaching N$4 million, further highlighting the nation’s growing investment in romantic gestures.
With spending on the rise, could 2025 be a record-breaking year for Valentine’s celebrations in Namibia?
