Namibia’s Environmental Investment Fund (NEIF) is positioning itself to access about N$1 billion from the Green Climate Fund. EIF’s chief executive officer, Benedict Libanda says the money would be used towards climate-resilient project funding. Libanda spoke to NBC News on the sidelines of the Climate Change Action Summit, in New York. The Green Climate Fund, a financial mechanism assisting developing countries in climate change mitigation, is in the first replenishment process to gather financial commitments from developed countries in line with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Namibia, through the Environmental Investment Fund, already accessed about N$600 million from the Green Climate Fund for adaptive projects. NEIF is now aiming for N$1 billion. The Climate Change Action Summit provided clear intents and one key aspect is the involvement of the youth. NEIF says it is aligning its project-financing towards youth entrepreneurship.
