President-Elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah thanked congregants of Onamutayi Anglican Church for their prayers and support throughout her life and political career.
She attended a church service there, marking her return to her home church, where her father, Deacon Petrus Nandi, helped establish the church in the 1930s.
The event was attended by Cabinet ministers, politicians, and business leaders.
During her campaign last year, Nandi-Ndaitwah also sought prayers and blessings at the church.
Addressing parishioners, she pledged to work for Namibia’s improvement: “I vow to be accountable and depend on the Namibian people in my work. I will keep my hope in the Almighty, who appoints leaders through His people. I humbly request your continued prayers for wisdom to fulfill God’s purpose and serve Namibia with fairness, justice, and dedication.”
She acknowledged the challenges of leading the country and asked for ongoing prayers and support.
“As I prepare to take over the helm of government, I urge you to join me and give me the support I need. Together, we must commit to hard work, transparency, honesty, professionalism, and unity to ensure effective service delivery and balanced prosperity for all.”
The first couple received holy communion and blessings ahead of their new responsibilities. Congregants offered their well-wishes as Nandi-Ndaitwah prepares to assume the presidency.
