NBC Director-General Stanley Similo has been elected to the Board of the Public Media Alliance, PMA. The PMA is the largest association of public service broadcasters globally. The seven-member board includes leaders of broadcasting organizations from countries and territories, as diverse as Tonga in the Pacific Ocean and the Strait of Gibraltar separating the North Atlantic from the Mediterranean Sea. In a media statement, the NBC said the new leadership was elected at the Public Media Alliance’s Annual General Meeting and Global Conference in Montreal, Canada, on Tuesday. It said the association exists to support progress and protect public service media worldwide. Similo has described his election as an honour, which will help him and fellow board members to provide guidance on public broadcasting globally. The Director-General is also President of the Southern African Broadcasting Association, SABA.
