The chief executive officer (CEO) of the Namibia Qualification Authority (NQA) Frans Gertze will remain in custody until 20 February 2020, after being denied bail on a charge of attempted murder. The accused was in the hospital and was reported to have the docket before the court in his absentia but later appeared just before lunch. Gertze shot his wife six times, he says the act was a result of mistaking her for an intruder. The 55-year-old faces a charge of attempted murder under which negligence of discharging a firearm is attached and the state opted he remains in custody due to the seriousness of the case. However, the defence counsel had indicated they would bring a formal bail application in due course. According to the police, a suicide note with a range of apologies were found in the bedroom and is being scrutinised, in establishing the core status of the case.
