The Namibia Training Authority (NTA) has started mobilising support towards the hosting of next year’s WorldSkills Africa Competition. NTA chief executive officer (CEO) Jerry Beukes has called on all stakeholders, including private companies, to come on board and help the NTA organise the continental vocational skills competition. Namibia won the right to host the competition against Ghana at the just concluded 45th WorldSkills Competition, held in the Russian city of Kazan. Altogether 11 Namibians contested at the event in various vocational skills areas including welding, bricklaying, amongst others. Namibia’s participants in the competition in Russia were welcomed back home over the weekend. Beukes used the occasion to encourage stakeholders to start contributing towards the successful hosting of the WorldSkills Africa Competition next year. NBC was the first institution to pledge its support for the hosting of the competition. Government indicate that it will support the competition, due to its potential to improve vocational training standards in Africa and to contribute to development. The event will take place late next year.
