An officer in the Namibian Police VIP Protection Directorate committed suicide over the weekend. According to a report issued by the Namibian Police on Sunday, the incident happened on Saturday afternoon, on a gravel road in Windhoek’s Brakwater area. The 34-year-old officer, Jonas Erastus Nakatati, of the VIPP Directorate, shot himself in the head with a service pistol. It is reported that the officer’s actions followed after he overturned a vehicle he had been driving, a Toyota Hilux Double Cab with a GRN number plate. A Police investigation into the incident is underway. An elderly woman at Okaluwa village in the Omuntele area near Okatope also committed suicide on Saturday. Police have identified the 78-year-old woman as Toini Nakanyala. Nakanyala’s body was found by her daughter, hanging in her sleeping hut with a rope around the neck.
