A handful of residents are demonstrating at the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court. Some came to demonstrate against the magistrate’s decision to swear in the Okahandja town council office-bearers after he allegedly got two conflicting letters. One letter was apparently from the acting chief executive officer of the town, confirming the swearing-in of the councillors while another letter came from the suspended CEO Martha Mutilifa, instructing the magistrate not to carry out the process. The first group wants the magistrate to swear in the councillors. Another group is demonstrating against the swearing-in of office bearers on grounds that the councillors were allegedly recalled by the party. A third group is against the granting of bail to municipality employees who are now in court for a formal bail application after they were arrested for allegedly stealing money from the municipality.
