Okahandja has been without water for two days. Mayor Congo Hindjou confirmed to NBC News this afternoon. “An 18-metre pipe was washed away after heavy rains on Wednesday evening, ” he said. Learners from all Okahandja schools were sent home yesterday. “We thank the principals for sending the children home. Many people gathering in the same place without water could have been a health risk. This is an unforeseen event caused by nature and we are handling it to the best of our abilities,” said Hindjou. He said the municipality has dispatched mobile water tanks to different locations at the town to mitigate the situation. The Mayor is hopeful that water could be restored to the town by late Friday afternoon and said that the Okahandja municipality has received material and expert assistance from NAMWATER.
