Omusati Region’s Chief Veterinarian Josephat Peter has confirmed an outbreak of African Swine Fever in the region since last week. So far the disease has killed 61 pigs with close to 200 more reported to have contracted the disease. The veterinarian has urged members of the public who have pig farms to watch out for signs such as difficulty in breathing, lack of appetite, diarrhoea and vomiting as some of the indicators. Peter further called on the public not to consume meat from carcasses of the infected pigs.
