The Otjozondjupa Police have called on the public to assist in the identification of 10 bodies involved in a car accident on Sunday evening between Okahandja and Karibib. The people died instantly after vehicles they were travelling in collided head on and burst into flames, some 20 kilometres outside Okahandja. Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa; so far no family members have contacted the police about missing relatives. Mbeha said six people including a baby, who were in a Volkswagen sedan died on the spot while four occupants in a GWM vehicle also died instantly at the scene. Their bodies burnt beyond recognition. Mbeha explained that since the bodies require forensic identification in the laboratory, biological relatives are of paramount importance to contact the Okahandja Police Station for the process to start. A 20-year-old man who were in the GWM is the only survivor. He sustained slight injuries and was taken to the Okahandja State Hospital for medical attention. Preliminary police investigations indicate that one of the two vehicles was overtaking another car and collided head on with an oncoming vehicle.
