President Hage Geingob has reiterated that the N$36 million payouts by the then South African government to Namibian war veterans at independence, was administered from Pretoria. He said the funds were distributed to PLAN fighters, Namibians who fought in Koevoet and SWATF units and the rest could only be accounted for by the South African government. The Ovaherero Traditional Authority leadership nonetheless channelled the concerns of the former fighters to Geingob.
