The Ovambanderu community has been commended for preserving and honouring their traditional practices and norms. Minister of Uban and Rural Development Sophia Shaningwa, heaped praise on the community, during the 121st commemoration, of the brutal killing of Chief Kahimemua Nguvauva, in 1896. The incident would serve as fore-runner to the 1904-08 genocide.
