The Pan African Women’s Organisation (PAWO) is concerned over the dangers of hate speech especially during an election year. Swapo Women’s Council Secretary, Eunice Iipinge says the two-day conference resolved that its affiliates should work towards raising awareness of the dangers of hate speech. “The members of PAWO should continue to advocate and create awareness about the danger of hate speech itself specifically during the elections period,” she says. The conference also resolved that there is need to provide protective measures for women involved in cross-border trade as they face many challenges. Other resolutions passed include the establishment of businesses by women particulary to provide sanitary pads to learners and encourage gender responsive budgeting. As the PAWO conference ends, the Women International Democratic Federation conference kicks off on Thursday.
