The Ministry of Finance re-emphasised that the plastic levy, being charged by some shops, is not to generate revenue for the state but to protect the environment. Chief Public Relations Officer Tonateni Shidhudhu confirmed that the 50 cent levy per bag has now been gazetted but will only become operational once approved by parliament.
