The suspect in the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Windhoek on Friday has been arrested. The suspect allegedly mutilated the young girl’s private parts, before he raped her in the Daan Viljoen area. Nampol spokesperson Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi confirmed the arrest of Gawanab in the early morning hours in Havana Informal settlement. Gawanab is expected to appear in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court today. It is alleged that the victim and another child were left in the care of the suspect. The suspect threatened to harm the children and one of them ran away. The suspect then got hold of the victim, threatened her with a knife and tried to rape her but because penetration could not take place he took a knife, cut her private part and had sexual intercourse with her. The suspect fled into the mountains before he was arrested.
