The 32-year-old police officer accused of attempting to sell a docket to a suspected perpetrator for N$2 500 appeared in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. Detective Sergeant Salomo Tsuseb appeared before magistrate Stanley Tembwe. Tembwe explained to Tsuseb his legal right to engage a private lawyer, apply for a State-funded lawyer through the Directorate of Legal Aid in the Ministry of Justice, or defend himself in court. He opted to engage the services of a private lawyer. Public prosecutor Esther Sylvanus strongly opposed the granting of bail, saying Tsuseb might interfere with police investigations. Sylvanus further told the court that it would not be in the interest of the administration of justice or in the public interest for the accused to be released on bail as he faces a serious charge. The case was then postponed to 21 April 2020 for further police investigations and to allow Tsuseb to acquire private legal representation. Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Thursday told NAMPA Tsuseb was arrested around 12h00 Wednesday when he tried to sell police docket CR 31/02/2016. She said the docket is for a reckless and negligent driving case containing information of a minor child who was run over at Grootfontein in 2016. The suspect was arrested at a service station in Grootfontein in a joint action of the police and members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Mbeha said. The N$2 500, which was allegedly meant for the sale of the docket, was reportedly also found in Tsuseb’s possession. -NAMPA
