The Namibian Police are stepping up pro-active policing and community engagement strategies to curb crime in Namibia. The Deputy Minister of Safety and Security made the remark at the launch of the Interpol initiative – Turn Back Crime – and the Rundu Women and Men Networking Against Crime on Wednesday. Daniel Kashikola said crime was on the increase in most parts of Namibia and the Kavango East Region, particularly the town of Rundu, was no exception. Kashikola believes the community has a major role to play in the fight against gender-based violence, house-breaking and drug-trafficking among other crimes. NamPol Chief Sebastian Ndeitunga was happy to see a large number of men and women volunteering to fight crime in their neighborhoods. The Women and Men Network is expected to work as police tip-offs on potential criminal elements as the police aim to focus on crime prevention. Ndeitunga, who is the Interpol Vice-President for Africa, said officers should uphold discipline and resist bribery and corruption in their line of duty.
