President Hage Geingob has announced that business persons from South Africa will be issued visas valid for five years. Addressing the business community of Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Geingob said that the issuing of five year visa follows complaints by some Namibian business people doing businesses with South African counterparts. South Africa is Namibia’s largest trading partner in SADC. Currently, the Namibian government issues a two year business visa to South Africans. President Geingob described this as unfortunate, saying it hampers investment and economic growth. The revision on the business visa issuance is part of the recommendations by the High-Level Panel on Economy, made during the economic revival summit held in August 2019. President Geingob said the government is also planning to introduce e-visas as it introduced visas on arrival for a selected number of countries already.
