President Hage Geingob has conferred the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis, First Class, on visiting former president of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. Johnson-Sirleaf is the first female former head of state to receive the honour. Her recognition is a testimony of Liberia’s support to Namibia during its struggle for independence from white minority South Africa. Liberia and Ethiopia took Namibia’s colonial occupation case to the International Court of Justice at the time despite the court ruling that the two countries had no say in the matter.
