President Hage Geingob says Namibia is holding the Second Land Conference to create conditions for fighting poverty, while maintaining peace and stability. He appealed to development partners such as United Nations to support the outcome of Namibia’s land conference. The president made the statement when addressing the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday. During his address, the Head of State said in preparation of the Conference, the Government conducted consultations in all 14 regions, so as to have an inclusive and consultative process. He therefore called on development partners such as the UN to support the outcome of this conference which may complete the country’s transformation process. The president says Namibia, as the ninth-most Tuberculosis-affected country in the world, supports the drive to end it. He has told the UN meeting that TB is one of the top three causes of hospitalisation in Namibia. Geingob has stressed that his administration has included fighting TB in the Fifth National Development Plan and uses its own funds to drive 70% of the campaign against the disease.
