President Hage Geingob will attend the burial of the late ANC liberation stalwart, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, on Saturday. Madikizela-Mandela died on 2 April and will be buried at the Fourways Memorial Park in Johannesburg, South Africa. Geingob will be accompanied by SWAPO Secretary-General, Sophia Shaningwa, to pay their last respects to the former ‘Mother of the Nation’. Presidency spokesperson, Alfredo Hengari, said Geingob had been in touch with his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, assuring him of Namibia’s support in the time of sorrow. Geingob also wrote a personal letter to the Madikizela and Mandela families, stating that Winnie joined the fight for freedom at a very young age. Thereby, he said, inspired many in Namibia to join the cause. Winnie died at the age of 81, after a long illness at Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg. NBC News will broadcast the funeral service live from 08h00 from Fourways Memorial Park on Saturday.
