Katutura East Constituency residents are determined to tackle social problems facing them with the assistance of Progress Namibia. A survey done by the organisation earlier this year show that the biggest challenges facing the constituency are lack of safety, social cohesion and trust as well as mushrooming shebeens. The elderly held a community meeting over the weekend, where they identified the need for a neighborhood watch to help ensure their safety. Councillor Ruben Sheehama said more should be done to protect the elderly from losing their homes. Progress Namibia Director Justine Braby said the aim is to create a sustainable project to assist the residents in dealing with the challenges they face. The organisation had raised 18 000 dollars to assist the community in setting up social programmes to improve their well-being. Progress Namibia Technical and Advisory Services is an organisation that focuses on supporting sustainable development in Africa through various services, including capacity-building, mentorship, facilitation, communication and education.
