The Meteorological Service of Namibia says the rainfall season has concluded in Namibia and the whole of Southern Africa. The weather office describes the overall rainfall season, as having been satisfying. In a statement, Chief of Climate and Databank, Simon Dirkse, says most of Namibia received above normal rainfall during April, the last month of the rainy season. Exceptions were //Karas Region and some areas in the North, including Ondangwa, where normal to below normal rainfall was experienced. The season began late by about three weeks, with rain only starting to fall in late November 2016, over the Zambezi Region. It rained abundantly since then, though, ending with a surplus of as much as 360mm in places. Seasonal rainfall over the Kavango regions was mixed, but was normal to above normal, overall. The north-central regions were negatively affected by suppressed and dry spells in January, and heavy downpours in February and March. Several areas in the North received less rainfall than normal, but still better than last season, while others received surplus rain throughout, from last October through to April this year. Parts of Kunene region, such as Khorixas, only started receiving rain in February, but nevertheless accumulated normal seasonal rainfall, by late April. Other parts of the Kunene region, and Erongo region, particularly Daures constituency, received below normal rainfall.
