The Land Reform Minister has warned that government efforts to resettle people on commercial farms will be meaningless if the beneficiaries are not ready to work hard. Utoni Nujoma stresses that farming is an expensive undertaking and, therefore, the beneficiaries should redouble efforts to ensure that land is utilized for their and Namibia’s benefit. The minister was addressing 16 newly resettled emerging commercial farmers who received their allotment letters at Farm Sumas in the Otjozondjupa region, south of Tsumeb on the Otavi-Tsumeb main road on Wednesday. Nujoma explained that the allotment letters to the successful beneficiaries placed responsibility on the farmers to be productive, self-sufficient and ultimately contribute to the Gross Domestic Product. The 16 new beneficiaries bring the total number of farmers resettled under the land reform programme to 5 247. Beneficiaries received the four-day intensive training to be successful, sustain themselves and their families as well as contribute to the effort of poverty eradication in Namibia.
