Civil servants are living in abject conditions in several government-owned flats in Windhoek. Dirty toilets and bathrooms, broken windows, garbage piling up: these are just some of the challenges tenants deal with daily. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Works Spokesperson Julius Ngweda says there is no money to carry out maintenance work. Ngweda also blames vandalism and illegal tenants, especially at the nurses’ home for the prevailing unhygienic conditions. He, however, adds that reprieve may soon be on the way for tenants, as a consultant has been appointed to renovate and maintain the properties.
