Residents of Havana and Hakahana settlements in Katutura will no longer have to walk long distances to be tested for HIV. The United States Development Agency, USAID, handed over a mobile HIV testing unit to the Hakahana informal settlement on Thursday. The mobile unit is located at the Hakahana Clinic and will serve residents of Havana and Hakahana settlements, who normally walk long distances to be tested for HIV. One resident told NBC News that they were used to walking long distances from Havanna to Wanaheda or sometimes to Okuryungava just for HIV testing. The mobile clinic will help reduce the queues and more people can now be attended to on a daily basis. More people have been showing up for testing, especially the youth, and this is an indication that the community really wants to know about their HIV status and that they are not afraid to come to HIV clinics for free testing.
