Four suspected rhino poachers have been arrested near Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa region. Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa that the suspects, aged 42, 60, 51, and 40, were arrested about 27 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo on Friday. She said the police monitored the movements of the four – one Namibian, two Zambians and an Angolan – after two large rhino horns were discovered at a house at Okahandja where the suspects had hidden them. Mbeha said members of NamPol’s serious crime unit in Windhoek, in collaboration with Otjozondjupa-based police officers teamed up to execute their arrest. She said the men are suspected to have hunted and killed a black rhino for its horns at the Erindi Private Game Reserve in the Omaruru District on Thursday. They were expected to appear in the Omaruru Magistrate’s Court today (mon).
