Tremors felt at Anker settlement, about 65 kilometres northwest of Kamanjab, in the Kunene Region, on Wednesday morning at 10h30, left some damage to infrastructure. Edward Garoab Primary School learners had to be evacuated from classrooms as walls were cracking during the tremors that reportedly lasted for less than a minute. The school dining hall, which seats 178 hostel learners, also suffered extensive cracks with further damage to lights and the ceiling. The school has now officially been closed until 2 April and traumatised learners were sent home. The area has been hit with tremors several times since last year but Wednesday’s incident is said to have been the scariest.
