Arguments on the final dissolution of the Small Medium Enterprise (SME Bank) have been postponed. The court has given the minority shareholders of the SME Bank until 18 and 19 October to convince the court to reverse its decision to wind up the operations of the bank. This followed the lodging of an urgent application by the Bank of Namibia in the High Court calling for the closure of the bank. The central bank took the decision after the SME Bank could no longer sustain itself as a financial institution. Another contributing factor was the failed attempts to recover the missing N$200 million from the bank’s coffers that had been invested outside the country.
